The cold weather is on its way, and winter is when small problems with a car turn into breakdowns. To help Telford drivers get ready, we are offering a free 15-minute winter safety check for new and existing customers until 19 December 2026. Here is why it matters, and what we check.

Why winter is hard on your car

Batteries work harder on cold mornings, wet roads make worn tyres more dangerous, and weak antifreeze can leave you with an engine that won’t start at all. Most winter breakdowns start with something small that could have been spotted early.

With the cost of living as it is, a lot of people are leaving longer between services than they normally would. That is exactly why we wanted to offer a free check this winter, so you can find out where your car stands without paying anything.

What we check

• Battery health. We test how well your battery is holding its charge, so it doesn’t let you down on a frosty morning.
• Tyre tread depth and pressures. Good tread matters more than ever on wet and icy roads.
• Lights. With darker mornings and evenings, you need to see and be seen.
• Wipers and screenwash. Clear visibility through winter spray and road salt.
• Coolant and antifreeze. We check the strength, so your engine is protected from freezing.
• A visual check of your brakes. So you can stop safely when the roads are slippery.

Each item is marked green, amber or red, so you can see at a glance what is fine and what needs attention. We will talk you through the results, and if anything does need work, you will get a clear quote before we touch it. There is no obligation to have anything done.

Simple things you can do at home

• Top up your screenwash with a winter mix before the first frost.
• Walk round the car once a week and check all your lights are working.
• Check your tyre pressures when the tyres are cold, using the figures in your handbook.
• If your engine is slow to turn over in the morning, get your battery tested before it fails completely.
